The latest attempt to use the courts to influence the workings of government has failed.

Perhaps the government likes those cuddly judges after all.

Has it though?

The PM doesn't want his Ministers to have to follow court rulings yet what's happened here is that the High Court has ruled that decisions made under the Ministerial Code are justiciable. Bit of an own goal there.

It would be an unusual winner in a court case who wants to torpedo the judges who just ruled in his favour.

The case demonstrates why allegations of a government conspiracy against the judiciary are conspiracy theory claptrap.

The union punter made a valiant attempt at making the best of it, but this was no score draw.

The government's first line was that the Ministerial Code was not justiciable; they lost on that.

The Justices did not accept that, reading his published statement as a whole, the PM had misinterpreted the section of the code about bullying.

Strangely quiet on this one @Pale Rider Like may Tory policies that are leading to authoritarianism.

*Waits for the standard condascending, sneering reply*

If you must attempt to sneer at me, at least spell condescending correctly.

I do apologise Oh Enlightened One. :notworthy:

But if you're going for my minor spelling error, that tells me you have no answer to the issue of your beloved Tory party turning the UK into an authoritarian state and you're doing the distraction 'look over there!' trick.

As someone who works in the legal profession, from what I get from your posts, aren't you concerned about this?

And you accusing anyone of sneering is just laughable.

John Barnes (yes THE John Barnes) has produced a superb book about racism in which he asserts that various disenfranchised groups are pit against each other by the elite to weaken their opposition to the status quo and keep the elite in power. If disenfranchised groups are to support each others' causes this will work more effectively than pursuing our own causes as separate groups.

Thought that might fit in well here since this thread is about you-know-who.
