It's my cunning plan to get them to agree to my riding a bike again (even if it is a borrowed leccy one). Even if they did say I could drive, at the moment I'd not risk it, as I'm having a few weird perceptual moments that would be easy enough to deal with going slowly on a bike path, but not good on in a car on a public road. I'm hoping it's not too long before I get the AF 'reverted', as I'm sure that's not helping.

In the meantime, I've got a midi keyboard and a blue bog brush to keep me amused. Happy days.

Maybe time for a little competition... can you find a picture with more than 14 lanes of motor traffic all going in the same direction? (Sorry, not sure where in the US this is.)

More wikipedia, but I'd not realised quite how well documented the build-up to this was. The emerging 'dome' was why so many people were already in the area prior to the eruption, and I guess they just couldn't conceive of the scale of the destruction. The landslide and debris avalanche covered 23 sq miles, and the lateral blast reached 230 sq miles.

House looks amazing especially for the price, but the driveway is just the spur from the reservoir maintenance access right next to it, so there are privacy issues. And if you have a leak or damp coming down from the ceiling, good luck. I also wonder whether there are restrictions on how the land can be used, particularly near the reservoir.

This kind of property always looks awesome, but I reckon you need to be a tradesman to be able to maintain one. Hence the price. It's a bit like seeking a £700k Scottish castle and thinking yeah maybe... And being bankrupt by actually living in it.

There is a converted engine house near here that was on Grand Designs about a decade ago. I think it eventually went for about £500k even though it has about 5 acres and is all bespoke inside, having been on for £750k initially. When I cycle past now it is covered in scaffold again.

Yeah, I did wonder about all those sorts of things, given the 'low' price.

It's a converted reservoir, right, so it was built to hold water, not to keep it out.

Similarly with industrial buildings, they look all lovely covered in ivy waiting to be turned into a dream home, but they were not designed to either last, particularly, or be lived in and have things like staircases and windows where they would make sense.
