Just saw this on the Beeb about the cost of school uniforms:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj4w0l5krvxo

Apparently Becky Mather who is on benefits cannot afford uniforms for her teenaged boys. The cynic in me observes the large neck tattoo, two or three facial tattoos and a shoulder tattoo. My understanding is that tattoos start at about £50. I think there is about £500 worth of tats in the picture, presumably paid for by the taxpayer?

Natalie Hull also can't afford uniforms. Her Facebook says she is a digital creator. She is single and presumably receives child support which should pay for the uniform.

I can't help thinking that they perhaps could afford uniforms if they really wanted to.

Am I too cynical?

It's along the lines of when they interview people sat in pubs or coffee shops that have to 'choose between heating and eating'.

If they were recently bought, perhaps she could return them for a refund.

Maybe she had the tattoos done when she was working and not on benefits. Not all ex partners pay child support either, though your second example should be getting the universal credit equivalent of tax credits as a working single parent.

She could have recently been scammed out of her life savings.

The tattoos could have been a prank when she was asleep one night in her freshman year.

Her ex could have been a tattoo artist.

She could be a tattoo artist and those might be autologous tattoos.

One can never tell.

Made me think of this. 😉

“They furnished off an apartment with a two room roebuck sale
The coolerator was crammed with TV dinners and ginger ale
But when Pierre found work, the little money comin' worked out well
"C'est la vie" say the old folks
It goes to show you never can tell.”

Don’t know about too cynical, but, I think you may get drummed out of the brownies. 😊

I wouldn't object to somebody on benefits using a food bank, tattooed or not, so why be snarky about them using a uniform bank? It's recycling unwanted clothes people have kindly donated and it costs the tax payer nothing. Sure, people who aren't desperate will use them but you could say the same for food banks.

Desperate or not, reusing a uniform is better than it being thrown away.

*Dons old man hat. There didn't use to be a need for uniform banks as we used to have a society.
One child's clothes was passed onto the next, or a relative, or a neighbour, or a friend... It was just the done thing.

I have no problem with them using a uniform bank. I'm slightly irritated that they claim to have no money but can afford tattoos.
