Is it a reversible change? If so. Add one or other of bicarb or lemon.

Yay. Added vinegar. Pretty colour change.

Anyway, because, baby, it's cold outside, and I'm bored, I'm seeing if an accelerated version of the experiment (microwaved purple cabbage water, then colling in the ice compartment) shows any colour change.

I know you're all excited.

Are you a fair weathered cyclist?

When it's this cold, yes. In my current health state, I noticed that the coldness really left me gulping for air. Annoying. That, and the likelihood of persistent ice - it was -9C this morning, and there are lots of roads that don't get to see the sun at all at this time of year.

If anything, it will turn bluer as the die that causes the red component decomposes.

Was it really that cold? Or are you in France? (Topsham is not that far away from me, but I am further from the sea and closer to the moors, so I would be surprised as it was closer to -3 here).

Thad said, we get the mist that freezes on contact down here which is in most respects worse than snow. My car has a 5mm glaze of ice on it, as do many roads. Since Devon and Cornwall between them have more miles of road and less normal requirement for grit, we are having to now resort to eating squirrels to survive.
