I saw a question on Reddit last night: "Can you save a seat on the tube?*" I thought: that's actually an interesting question!

*for a friend that would get on at a later stop. And the train was really busy.

If you want a conversation, you need to ask someone for help. You'll likely be surprised how friendly and helpful everyone is.

Dunno. I once went up to the information desk on arrival at one London station to ask for directions to a well known street.

Not that I'm a 'likes tart' at all, you understand, or am annoyed that I can interact with my French Facebook followers (or see my stats) because I'm completely locked out of FB... no, I pay no attention to the stats at all, really...

Mind you, it doesn't say what kind of reactions they are, so maybe everyone hates Mr. (I) H. Well, apart from me, cos he's actually a jolly decent chap.

Not banter, but just mulling over my next French getaway, hopefully replumbed by then...

Having found Valence - Lille - London - Topsham by train much less stressful than doing the middle bit CDG-BRS by plane, I'm looking at options & prices... I reckon if I got to St P in the evening, stayed in the cheap-but-OK hotel right near the station, caught the early (7.04am) Eurostar to Lille, then the mid-morning TGV to Valence from there, I can do it for £45 + £55 + £50, plus the hotel for about £50. I'd leave Topsham lunchtime, and arrive at my place early evening after the local train (£10) and a walk. Those prices are based on looking at a random mid-week date in March. Timings are actually similar to flight option (longer on the move, but less time needed for safety margin), and prices not wildly different.

Very tempting.
