It's rather a metaphor for life: a slightly random jumble of maybe-useful stuff that somehow fits in between birth and death. Over-tidiness simply means you could have been getting on with fun stuff rather than rearranging your cupboards yet again with stuff you rarely use anyway.
I see. The first thing that I see is that the bowls should not be in there. Secondly the mugs should be grouped by mug type and the glasses by glass type as much as possible, although some space optimisation should be needed. It's also slightly unfair as the cupboard on the left is owned by someone who drinks a lot of beer, tea and coffee, whereas the one on the right has a much more balanced palate...

My parents had a lovely bone china tea set they were given for a wedding present, but it stayed in the cupboard, virtually unused, for the 60 years they were in the house, as it was deemed to nice and too delicate to use.

Ha! Last year we were emptying my Dad's cupboard prior to moving it and found wedding presents (1957) with wedding cards that he didn't even know they had, far less used. He didn't recognise the names either! 😱 Opens up the possibility of being Gran's presents. (no "to" names on cards).

As I say, a perfect metaphor for life!

Reminds me of Mum recounting that there was one wedding present that they never did work out who it had come from.

The lovely Sheffield steel cutlery set they were given was still in daily use until Mum died, and still looked smart, and not even the knife handles (I think fake ivory) had discoloured or chipped. Quality.

Used frequently as you asked, not daily.
Daily stuff is the same items over and over with most rarely used.

Impressive then. I did give Mum a silver dessert spoon that was made within a year or two of her birth which she used daily for breakfast, and now it serves the same purpose chez moi.

I find the stuff that I bought new and now is "How old?!" a bit sobering, I'll admit.

Regular
Glassware in pretty much daily use:
pint glass with DTI stamp for West Yorkshire, pre 1953, possibly pre-war,
two hand-blown rummers (ground out pontils), probably first half of 19th century.

Personally I'd have just used a photo of Lyndsey Vonn.

It’s been great having Vonn back racing. Hope she recovers from the injury she picked up last week.
