Erm, don't they wear black roll neck sweaters out of choice anyway?
It's because of that Saab advert. They all think it makes them look clever. But all it does is show dandruff.

It's actually a great article .

The proportions do look a bit odd. And it is a mish mash of styles.
It may grow on me, but someone has taken a risk with commissioning this.

There's a musician I've worked with whose music I'm never sure if he's behind deadly serious or drolly humorous. I think this building falls into a similar category, but doesn't work well either way.

If you go to the architects website, the image shows a building where the lower and upper modules (for want of a better word) have colours and proportions of the dividers between glazing panels that are much better tied together. The proportions are still wrong, but it it not as bad.

What had been built has the part of Tolworth high street that was hastily built out of RAAC after the war on stilts. The horizontal cladding seems to be a later addition.

Cost savings?

Sometimes, not often, it's not the fault of the person with the original vision. Just look at the Austin Allegro.

It is. I only read it after I'd linked it.

Is it just me or does anyone else want to see a revival of 'Via Galactica' the space themed musical with actors on trampolines?

Went to Lockerbie today... nothing particular planned, just wanted a train trip (£19.80 return from Kendal), and liked the red stone buildings, the brass sheep (including anatomically correct rams) and the most fantastic bakers, where I got a haggis, bacon and sausage bap. (Had I got going earlier we might have gone to Edinburgh or Glasgow, but the grey would have been the same there as in Lockerbie.) Obviously can't help think of Pan Am 103, from 1988. Hard to imagine bits of the plane crashing into streets and killing 11 residents.

Reflections too on the obviously not-prosperous nature of the town, despite being within easy reach of Edinburgh, Glasgow & Manchester from a station right by the town centre, easy access to the M6, and some decent scenery not far away in all directions. I guess it shows how hard it is to turn things around when a place isn't attracting people with money & fancy jobs.

Won't be long before John Harris of the Guardian turns up to do a report.
