I think following someone else's synthesis during the course of doing some new science on what you make does not make reciting that synthesis in the experimental section plagiarism. Probably there should be a citation though.

Proof reading your own work is quite hard. Proof reading no one else's should be easier though.

Even if "the good guys" did stop to think, once the genie is out of the bottle, "the bad guys" will certainly do whatever. By definition, they are not constrained by "if they should".
