Self-described British patriots have condemned Britain’s justice system after Tommy Robinson was found guilty of harassing two journalists, in an outrageous example of a British jury in a British court applying British laws to someone they like.
Supporters immediately branded the verdict “two-tier justice”, explaining that the law should apply equally to everyone unless doing so produces an outcome they disagree with.
“This country used to stand for something,” explained Robinson supporter Simon Williams. “British values. British institutions. Trial by jury. Proper consequences for criminal behaviour.
“Obviously, I meant for other people.”
Robinson had wanted a jury trial under the mistaken apprehension that people hearing his evidence would think it was “okay” to harass journalists, but supporters have now clarified that listening to his evidence and finding him guilty was not among the acceptable options.
“He wanted ordinary British people to decide,” continued Williams. “Unfortunately, they’ve gone and picked the wrong ordinary British people.
“We need a system where a jury can independently consider all the evidence and then reach the conclusion we’ve already decided upon. Anything else is a two-tier stitch-up, obviously.”
Williams insisted that the verdict demonstrated a sinister establishment conspiracy involving a police, members of the CPS, at least one judge, a team of prosecutors and several members of the public who were selected at random.
Asked how a conviction following a jury trial constituted two-tier justice, he explained, “Because some people commit crimes and get convicted, whereas Tommy commits crimes and we don’t think he should get convicted.
“That’s two very different categories of justice.”
Fellow patriot Derek Matthews agreed that Britain must urgently restore respect for its legal system by completely disregarding this particular verdict.
“If you come to this country, you follow our laws,” he insisted.
Asked whether that principle also applied to people already here, Matthews said he resented the attempt to introduce a loophole.
“We’re simply demanding one law for everyone,” he concluded. “And a slightly different one for Tommy.”
