While we're on the subject, dog owners in general get on my nerves. Not just walking them with no leads or, even worse, with long leads, or taking up the whole path while talking with another dog owner about the virtues of (insert breed here), or carrying them in bags, or bringing their yappy/dirty pets into cafes to get under your feet when you're carrying a cup of coffee to your table, or cafes that sell "puppychinos" ffs, or people who, when they can be bothered to put their pet's sh*t in a bag hang it in a bush or toss it in some corner where a toddler could step in it.

I'm not very keen on cats either but at least they're not taken everywhere by their owners.

Strangely, I like dogs, it's just the owners get on my nerves.

Oh dear, are you my long lost twin?

We used to use a couple of rather pleasant Cafes in Whitburn and Washington as stopping points, but, they became so popular with dog walkers and their barking dogs, that we switched to a couple of dog free places.

I now refuse to frequent any pub, cafe or other eatery which allows dogs in.

1947 was a good year.

One local chain of coffee shops, otherwise excellent, welcomes dogs, sells dog treats..including ice cream!!!, and is even named after the owner's favourite breed...Coffee Lab.
I have seen the staff petting dogs as they clear the tables...I hope they wash their hands before serving customers.

Cleverest set up that I have seen was while on holiday in Ballater.
Two cafes, three doors apart. One welcomed dogs, one barred them (guide dogs excepted). Both were busy.

That definitely feels like a relatively recent thing. Other than the occasional beer garden or a pub turning a blind eye to an old local with his fat Lab or a Greyhound curled up at their feet I can't remember dogs being in cafes / pubs etc. until maybe the last decade. I'm a dog lover and have owned dogs (often more than one) for most of my life but it seems like owners these days are increasingly entitled. I really don't understand anyone taking their dog into a busy town centre either (I can sort of understand in touristy areas where you've got the dog with you and can't leave it in your accommodation or car but not in the towns near me that are basically just shopping centres).

My "rant" today is about online vendors. It's too easy for "retailers" who are not setup for online sales to publish a "shop" and sell stuff. The problems come when things beyond box shipping are needed eg returned item and they've not bothered to think about how to handle that.

Back in Jan I purchased some cycle parts online and had to return for refund as the vendor's description was wrong and they were not suitable. Returned "as new", unopened, etc. Several weeks after Royal Mail confirmed delivery I had to telephone "Where's my refund?". They managed to trace the original order, then managed to trace the return had been received OK, checked OK but they had no idea why it hand't been refunded.

They refunded during the call and no arguments and whilst hiccups do happen, they really just were not setup to manage a reliable process.

I bought a new groupset on Cycle To Work from one of the bigger UK mail order companies a few years ago. When it arrived I unboxed everything and realised the rear mech was missing. I immediately contact them and was told their records showed that everything was included so effectively called me a liar. When I insisted it wasn't in the parcel and started leaving bad reviews they asked me to show them a photo of everything so they could see it was missing. This must have been the most pointless, face saving request ever made as if it really had turned up I would obviously have taken it out for the photo. I also had a running retailer (that I've used loads of other times with no issue) where I ordered some trainers and someone had managed to purchase a GPS watch using my details and got it delivered to a completely different address. I noticed immediately that the payment taken was way over where it should be and notified them straight away stopping it getting delivered. They refused to refund me until the item was back with them and restocked and blamed Paypal (Paypal blamed them) and despite it being me that raised the alert I was out of pocket for over a week waiting for them to sort things out. I'm not sure what would have happened if I didn't spot the issue before the fraudsters got their hands on the watch.

Complete morons like this who go to see some beautiful nature, do something stupid to get themselves hurt and then cry ‘something must be done’ which would involve (more) man-made stuff to ruin the beauty of the place. I’ll be kind and assume she was concussed in the fall and was still a bit confused. FWIW I was there a couple of months ago and the most dangerous part of the walk, if you stuck to the official paths, were the steps that have been built down to the one set of falls which are being replaced. Respect the risks of nature or stay home and make it more pleasant for the rest of us.

It shows in blue for me, while normal text is black.

It does, but it would still be easier to see if underlined or if a lighter shade - in shading terms it's still quite dark, and my brain isn't looking for colours in small text.

Converted to B&W...
