It is working in the US because there was already a groundswell of antivac anti science to latch on to, coming yes from ethnic minorites who were historically left down by medicine, but also from religious fundamentalism. This is the country where Darwinism is still somehow controversial, right?

As momentum builds more people latch on because people like to be part of a tribe.

Here I'm not sure there is enough religious fundamentalism for that to really build from. So who is his audience on this?

Possibly dummies here who are maga fans and want to latch onto that tribe, even though they are too stupid to realise that by definition it works against them because they are British.

Imo it's the old "my freedom Vs regulation" thing and the "my belief Vs science" thing.

Deep in American culture, less so here.

I think it's a miscalculation on Farage's part, FWIW. Well, I hope so.

Shows how thick Farage is, Paracetamol has been widely used since the 1960s so we have over 60 years of evidence. Thalidomide was a new drug and it was withdrawn within 3 years of coming into use after the problems had become obvious. I don't see how anyone applying thinking can say that something that has been used regularly for 60 years is leading to an increase in autism in recent years.

All people need to know is that thalidomide is bad.
Then leave them to join the dots between something bad and paracetamol. That is how the message hits, no details or facts required. It just needs an idea with a touch of emotion.
If he is on shakey ground he can just say he was taken out of context or something.

Many of the refugees I meet have withstood persecution and torture, crossed deserts on foot and seas on small boats. They are desperate to work.

That's a hell of a tough interview they have already passed.

They are nearly all coming here from a perfectly safe country - France.

Strange considering how many extra seats they won at the last General Election, pretty much entirely from your team. You seem to be so in thrall to politicians that like 'alternative facts' that you are starting to do the same yourself. Good that it got a reaction from you likebot who is deprived of a voice though - nice to have some Cake Stop traditions maintained.

How much chances of forming the next govt do they have? That should tell you what you need to know.

We already do with a fairly strigent immigration/visa system, which you well know Stevo. As you highlight "And not on the basis of simply being able to arrive in the country.", I assume you are referring to asylum seekers? Unless we are going to ignore the 1951 UN Convention then we can't do much about it other than process them as quickly as possible.

Fairly stringent? On what basis? The current level of immigration, both legal and illegal, would suggest otherwise.

Seriously? That's your solution - that they should all stay in France? By that logic they should all stay in Iran and Pakistan where 90% of Afghan refugees reside. They don't magically appear in France, they travel through Europe, they might pass through Turkey, Blugaria, Serbia, Croatia, Austria and Italy before they reach France. The Syrian refugees were all travelling to Italy, so Italy is the only country that should accept them?

The idea that asylum seekers should all end up in the first country they get to is ludicrous and unworkable.

"Has the Country next to you started an all out war civil or otherwise? Well, you'll be needing more houses to host their residents then! Call 0800 my-country-is-farked to start processing all the people scared shitless who just want not to be bombed, raped or shot..."

Thalidomide is safe- as long as you aren't pregnant. Afaik,it's still used for cancer/AIDS treatments?

We should be giving asylum to people whose lives are in danger - are you saying their lives are in danger in France? Clearly not, so coming to the UK is a choice.
