Arguments were made for Brexit that resulted in more votes than did the poor arguments to remain.
Blatant lies were made by the Brexit campaign. These resulted in more votes than did the truthful arguments to remain.
As Trump has proven, enough of the electorate are just stupid enough to believe what people say without actually checking if it is true.

You may think and dismissed their concerns.

Let's see what the next general election result brings

A lesson which does not seem to have been learned, given the efforts to rubbish Reform, rather than promote better policies.

The problem with that is it is much easier to come up with simplistic and populist ideas that look appealing to those who demand instant gratification than to work out a policy that will actually succeed without demonising and punishing a huge chunk of people.

Part of the way to beat Reform is to point out the flaws in their policies, or ‘rubbish’ them in your terms. But, as you imply, that is helped if you have started to, at least be seen to, develop workable policies.

I dont believe those who want what Reform are offering inthe way of policies, expect all will be fine in a blink of an eye.

Decades of ignoring the people will take quite a while to sort.

When you get a leader prepared to be bold and decisive, objectives can often be achieved quickly

1. Oh yes they do, and that is what Reform are offering.
2. Is that why just 12 months after 15 years of Tory government, people think Labour should have sorted everything out by now?
3. I agree with you and also regret that Starmer is neither of those things.

You've finally given up on the Tories? Does that mean you are voting for Reform next time or are you going to stick with a Party you believe will be a coalition partner at best?

No, just sticking to to the point about the Libs.

The trouble with better policies is that they tend to be expensive and not instantaneous.
Populists want quick easy cheap solutions, even if they are unworkable.

That was not your point though, you asked on what basis were visa rules not stringent and I answered highlighting how they had become more stringent.

May be more stringent but in my humble opinion not stringent enough - as evidenced by the numbers, hence my point above.

That doesn't mean it isn't too high. At least if you ask a lot of the electorate outside of lib bubbles like this one.

Nobody said it wasnt. Remind me who was in charge from 2020 to 2024?
There was considerably less migration during the Covid-19 pandemic than in previous years. The pandemic also disrupted the way in which migration statistics are produced so the data from this period is subject to more uncertainty than usual. In 2021, immigration increased sharply and reached a level of around 1.2-1.3 million per year in 2022 and 2023, before fallin in 2024.
