Problem is the infrastructure of the country is falling apart and needs investment. Austerity (which I still think was needed) allowed things to deteriorate and when we were starting to get some economic growth everything stalled while the only thing on the government’s order of business was ‘getting Brexit done’. Not even considering whether leaving the EU has been an economic disaster the 2 or 3 years of total inertia it created in running the country didn’t help anything.

Sshh. Not allowed to mention the B word, as it's too late to do anything about it, apparently.

Gosh, Nigel, what could it be about those Nigerians, Pakistanis and Africans that makes you feel they should be deported? It's a mystery...

If that is the priority the I guess then they need to look at what they can reduce spending on so that they can put some money into fixing the potholes etc.

I think we’re beyond the finding change down the back of the sofa stage. With the economy having flatlined for most of the last 15 years the only real option is to raise taxes. There’s not really any cost savings of the scale needed to fix things. Parties chucking around offers of tax cuts and simple solutions are just being wilfully deceitful of the realities.

That's not the only real option as I mentioned above...

So just let the country fall into rack and ruin through lack of spending?

If the economy shrinks through lack of investment, the current borrowing effectively becomes more expensive.

No, repriortise spending. Unless of course you can demonstrate that every bit of current public spending absolutely essential to prevent ruin.

So what bits of spending should we be taking away? It’s not like these issues have suddenly appeared in the last 14 months is it?

Looks like we won't get a refund from Tory peer, Baroness Mone to help pay the bills. Poor things, must really be on their uppers.
