Maybe, but mainly it's because most of them are lying b@stards.

I see no basis for us to disagree, therefore I guess we agree. In the current climate, trust is low, which in turn creates anger. In my opinion this does not create the best ambience for elections as Labour might find out later this month, and again in early May.

Maybe compare them with what they put in their own manifesto then?

Oh good idea:
https://fullfact.org/government-tracker/

So
  • 18 pledges achieved
  • 16 pledges in progress and on track
  • 23 pledges in progress generally
  • 6 pledges in progress and off track
  • 4 pledges not kept
  • 5 pledges disputed
  • 14 pledges not yet started
So that's 86 pledges of which 57 are going well, 14 haven't yet been started, 6 are off track and 9 are in the sin bin.

An 82% success rate at the present time looks pretty reasonable to me.

Yes they're doing marvellously and the fact that their poll ratings are in the dirt is because of GB News and The Sun and in fact the huge successes they have scored have resonated really well with the public. That they're now in the midst of the worst scandal since the Profumo affair has barely made the headlines because the voters are so satisfied and feel so well off. Well done Sir Keir I doff my cap to you.

Not all manifesto promises are equal though so a count of Achieved, In progress, Not Achieved isn't that relevant.

Achieving a supervised tooth brushing scheme for 3 year olds isn't as big a deal as promising not to raise taxes on working people and falling short.

I still maintain that anyone believing that taxes were not going to be raised for working people were deluded. Said so before the election.
And yes, I include Starmer and Reeves in that assessment.

And I've said repeatedly that the electorate shows that they won't vote for honesty, so all the parties shy away from hard truths. We get the manifestos we deserve. Time and time again in opinion polls people say that support tax rises for specific things, then as soon as it comes to an election, they simply say "What re they promising me that will make me better off?" And then they complain about the state of the NHS, or potholes.

I'm not so sure. The Northern Europeans are a living example that the public will pay a significant amount of tax in return for good public services. I'm afraid the British public just won't tolerate high taxes in return for p1ss poor services however. There's no evidence that having the highest tax burden since the war is delivering anything for hard-working people other than pain and misery. Nothing works. If it did then we'd be more inclined to stump up for it but it sticks in the craw when we have 9 million economically inactive people who we're presumably having to support instead.
