Tru dat. I think that might be the case for quite a few of the Reform intake, despite the 'rigorous vetting'. Possibly the more charitable opinion is that they haven't been well educated, given what we know about lack of education and likelihood of voting for Brexit/Reform.

Doesn't that make them too stupid for the job?
You don't have to answer that.

Depends if you want to allow them the excuse that lack of education doesn't necessarily mean that they are Aren't Very Clever. I couldn't possibly comment. That said, I'd hope that a councillor would know how to find information and be able to read it.

In law, ignorance is not a defence.

Having had a look at Kirklees Council's website, it is the model of clarity for public and councillors, and it took me about 5 minutes to do the homework she should have done. She's either very dim or hasn't even made an effort at all.
Have a look at the neighbouring council. There's some that failed to make the cut for the Kirklees elections, got elected for that one.

The leader, first reform councillor(Labour and Co-Operative party defect), left after he failed to become deputy leader to become the Reform UK party leader, ousting the then party leader because he "was actually on the council" is now the council leader.

There's questions he'd rather not be raised about his early years.

From memory, that was the second time. Similar offence, beat his girlfriend up at a BBQ at someone else's house. Drink taken, and he still wanted to drive home, all of 500 yards away.

Sounds a bit like Alan Amos, now leader of Reform at Worcestershire County Council.

The pair of them seem to have a fair bit in common, standing down from the party because they didn't get what they wanted, heading for a reform seat(Because, I think, both knew they'd never get elected as an independent).

Reform promised big things for Gateshead, but would rather squabble with Labour and leave a perfectly viable quayside plot vacant...

It'll probably end up sold off for housing to people who will then complain about it being busy when there's something on at the Sage/Glasshouse.

The elections were only weeks ago, I think it may take more than weeks to deliver change in Gateshead.

In South Tyneside, Labour were reduced to one Councillor, and Reform now have control. Again, that was only weeks ago, so, virtually nothing has changed. However, in the Council Ward within which I live, there is at least talk of sorting some of the problems which matter to people on a local level. The defeated Labour Councillor for the ward did not even answer her Emails.

I didn't vote Reform by the way, as much as I wanted to see a change, I just could not bring myself to put the X there.

I'm aware, but that wasn't my point. If they were serious about change for Gateshead, they'd have said "Right, this has been going on since 2023, let's not bollocks about any more and actually do something - here are some ideas..."

But no, leave it derelict and declare it a vanity project. Top work.

Nick Allan is a walloper in any case, saying that changes were needed to Gateshead's roads to "free up access" to Newcastle. He might as well have said he'd like to make it easier to escape from Gateshead, which is basically Tesco and not much else.

Yes, rather like South Shields, except for Tesco, read ASDA. I suspect we will have to agree to disagree, on the causes, but, to me, the issue is "who presided over the previous 50+ years of decline?".

Personally, I don't expect "great things" from the Reform Councillors (or the Independents), but, locally, Labour needed a wake up call, and, there were a fair sprinkling of clowns in the Labour Ranks.

I don't think we do disagree on the causes. Labour have been complacent in both North and South Tyneside for years.

A wake-up call from Reform (or any other party) is not a bad thing.

BREAKING NEWS:

'Sexism and swearing forced me to quit Reform'

A councillor who left Reform UK to join the Conservatives this week said she faced issues within the local branch of her former party, including "shouting, verbal abuse and swearing", as well as sexism.
Apparently she was fine with the racism and xenophobia...

It turns out that Reform councillors don't like being treated like second class citizens. Special measures have been taken to stop the Staffordshire ironyometer from exploding.

On news this evening Fârage explaining how most attending the NI riots last night were not "trouble makers", not far right, not extremists but just frightened. How come he knows so much about those attending? To know such detail he must have been very central to it all ... After all, even the Police kept riot shields and fistance between themselves and the masked rioters yet somehow Fârage knows great detail about them.
