I'd thought that if a candidate dies the election is still held.If he dies in an assassination attempt, the process is stopped, allowing the party(ies) time to nominate another candidate. Then the process starts again. Withdrawing on health grounds after the close of nominations isn't possible, and the election goes ahead.
That's the case if the person who dies is an independent candidate. But if they're representing a 'registered political party' the poll is cancelled and a new writ issued.
