Worth a view, if you can: "The BBC found someone..." [as Farage laughs at the emotional interviewee with mixed-race children in Pissington] who's not a bigot.

Just shows his true character.

Like with Trümp, I can't understand why people hold him in any esteem.

I see that Piddington Parish Council has not had a contested election since 2016, and the current chairman was installed without a vote. It reminds me of an organisation I was involved with that got itself into very hot water because no-one was prepared to stand for one of the 'officer' roles, and one person ended up acting in two roles. It seemed like a kind offer until we twigged the intent behind the offer, and legal advice was offered (and needed) to prevent a putsch.

I guess they succeeded in Piddington in getting the attention they wanted, but I suspect that any attraction of the place in the future will have somewhat diminished for anyone with a conscience.

I don't think it is uncommon for Parish Council seats to be filled without contest. Many of these councils have unfilled seats. I am not sure there's a lot of profit to be made as chairman of a Parish Council.

I guess the likelihood of world domination and untold riches is rather low from the starting point of a parish council, though Piddington's played a good game in getting noticed, which is a start.

Yes, loads of unfilled places on Parish Councils, so if anyone is willing to take a spot there's no need for an election, as there's no one to stand against them.
Loads of people are willing to moan from the outside, but will never get involved in actually running something.

Question: Now that Piddington has outed itself as a little England racist shithole, do you think this will impact house sales there? Yes of course there are racists that would flock to it, but most people aren't racist and just want a bit of peace and quiet.
This is going to bite them on the arse big time imo. There's nothing these type of people care about more than house prices (other than brown people, natch).

Indeed, it is a rather ungrateful task to be a Parish Councillor, or even the clerk. Some years ago the clerk of our parish council had to call the police because a someone unhappy with a planning decision tried to take it off with her front door, and the decision had nothing to do with the parish council, and even if it had, the clerk does has no vote in the council meetings!

Congratulations to the newly self-elected appointed Queen of Piddlington.

I think they've got the attention they wanted but not the public perception they wanted. They might have this Patriot Platform speaking out for them, even Fárangé but much of the wider public can recognise racism and will have watched and quietly formed their opinions.

And the Parish Council and those actively pushing the vote probably not even thinking about how they came across to the UK but just blinded by the cameras & attention.

This town council had a disciplinary matter that dragged on for ever. Lots of Zoom meetings (it being partly in the plague years) gave the impression of a council more dysfunctional than Handforth's. Five years later it still crops up in FB groups.
