Black humour is always black. A friend, older than I, told me that, in his youth, choirmasters and scoutmasters were always to be avoided.
I am sure those who consider it humourous will chuckle, without giving little if any, thought to the impact sexual abuse/assault has.

I gave the impact quite a lot of thought.

It's still funny.

What's not is the free pass the catholic church (other denominations are available) gets for all kinds of abuse.

None of them should get a free pass.
As the 2021 House of Commons report into child protection in religious organisations found, there were egregious failings by a number of religious organisations and precise and reliable evidence of the scale of the abuse was not available. Furthermore, not only were there significant differences between religious organisations about their child protection policies, but where policies were in place, some organisations had, in the words of the report "disguised compliance".

I get that, but, time is overdue for a shake up, and, we have a Labour Government with a big majority, so, time to get on with it.

Perhaps this could be another nail in the coffin.
A shake up to do what? Install more political appointees that suit the party in power at the time? Elect more politicians that we allegedly don't trust further than we can throw?

Maybe make it like jury service - anyone can be called for three years.

Isn't that some sort of Oxymoron? The whole point of Religion is to tell lies to a large group of people (usually about sky based beings with magic powers) in order to control them. Religion isn't about truth, it's about money and power.

This, I once upset a god botherer quite badly by saying to them -

Years ago when people didn't understand about weather patterns and the star's one bloke, who was a bit cleverer than the others, said to his tribe, 'there's this bloke in the sky called god, and he's not happy with what you're doing so he's used his special powers to make the crops fail. Don't worry though, I can talk to him so if you give me some money, and do exactly what I say, then I see things right with him.'

So everyone did as they were told, happily ever after blah blah blah.

Then a guy down the road cottoned on and did the same with his tribe, but the first bloke didn't like the idea of someone threatening his power so he said to his mugs,' look at them, they're telling lies about our god, let's go and give them a good kicking.'

And repeat for thousands of years.

That is a very cynical view of the world

or possibly a very concise and accurate history of the world

probably both

You might have thought that the Anglican clergy would be less prone to child-fiddling than their supposedly celibate Roman Catholic counterparts. I have some indirect knowledge of the latter, having been educated in RC schools. Some of my teachers came to sticky ends (if that's not an inappropriate phrase).

When I was young I had to go to what was then called Sunday School, nothing untoward happened at all.

When you read the written word, because of the lack of facial expression, or tone of voice, it's sometimes difficult to find some context, so I can't tell if you were disappointed or not. 😂

Sunday. School was an opportunity for parents (living in cramped accommodation) to get children out of the house, so that they (the parents) could indulge in producing more offspring ;)
