Well in Wakefield the hotel was protected by police. Also nobody dare come out, they’ve been scared off by the examples they made of the thugs from the previous week. Maybe some realised they have been getting played.

That, and that their actions have consequences.

It's also pretty tricky to play the hard man if you're crying in court and asking for your mum. Or going back on everything you said you believed in and that you were learning lessons or whatever bollocks some of them are coming out with.

FFS, if you're going to be a twatty racist at least commit to it.

Funnily enough, it seems that Patel and others were right after all when they alleged two-tier policing in this country.
Research by The Royal United Services Institute
Rusi’s research suggests that the nature of far-right violence, which is often seen as low impact and disjointed, coupled with institutional bias and racism, means that far-right violence has historically not triggered the same responses from politicians, security services and the media as jihadist violent extremism... Far right-motivated violence is often classified as mere ‘thuggery’ or hooliganism, while similar acts motivated by Islamist extremism would likely be swiftly labelled as terrorism.

Interesting read about Scottish attitudes:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy9ej889w20o

I read that earlier and found it to be a reasonable article.

I think the governance we’ve seen from Holyrood over the time the SNP have led has been a great contributor to our current position. We are less isolationist, willing to maintain and even restore connections with Europe, more equitable in our treatment of society. In general, I think it’s a nicer, more welcoming place to be.

I love visiting remote parts of the Highlands and finding a wee sandwich shop run by a woman from Manchester, or encountering a woman on a lonely forest walk and learning she moved here from Germany 20 years ago. It makes me glad that, of all the places in the world, including their own city or town, they’ve chosen to make a life here. I don’t think my view is unusual and maybe that helps when it comes to those from afar being accepted locally.

I think a perfect example of this would be Rothesay on Bute.

I recently saw Limbo, which is a sort of fictionalised account of it and well worth a watch:
