The Times and Telegraph both report that the Widdecombe murder inquiry has been passed to counter terror police:

I keep seeing politicians calling for a review of security for MPs. But she hadn’t been an MP for 16 years. I know PMs get protection for life but I presume other high profile ex MPs don’t.
Surely we can’t be expected to protect all ex MPs for ever. Unless some targeted intelligence comes up.
The guy who is alleged to have murdered Ann wasn't known but was so inept that he was recorded on her Ring Doorbell camera.
It’s a whole new level of benefit scroungers.

Farage has resigned as MP so he can make his own security arrangements.
Burnham joining in now:
Review of MP security needed after Widdecombe death, Burnham says https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8e2eyg2p40o
MPs, particularly those with a profile for adopting causes, are now getting threats on a daily basis. Two have been murdered witihn a decade and others attacked. Dianne Abbot has been in the spotlight but many others, Stella Creasey springs to mind, have also been targeted.
On a serious sidetone, It has occurred to me that all this flip-flopping of PMs achieves very little except costing the taxpayer more.
More people receiving protection and more people receiving a lifetime PM pension. Which is galling when some are against the state pension.
