I've got accounts on Twitter, Bluesky, Facebook, Instagram, and various forums.

Never got too addicted to tweeting, am merely name squatting on Bluesky, dislike Facebook and mostly stopped using it years ago but am too lazy to delete myself (it's useful to keep track of relatives and village life), and uploaded a handful of photos on Instagram before losing interest.

As for forums, I'm currently active here and my own literally joke of a forum. Occasionally post on Mumsnet, where you can delightfully name change with the greatest of ease. Started there on AIBU, as I suspect do most non-mums, but now mostly confine my visits to Feminism: Sex and gender discussions, or FWR (Feminism and Women's Rights) as it's known to the cognoscenti. Also lurk at the notorious Kiwi Farms, which is as wild west as it gets.

Thanks to watching a rather fine literary murder mystery series featuring Lesley Manville, last night I found out about

Booktok

That sounds like a jolly good thing.

Mastodon seems to have fallen out of favour. Active users are dropping off. Kiwi farms .... well there's something for everybody on there, but only if you literally hate everything and everybody on God's green earth.

I stumbled onto Kiwi on Mumsnet, where it's spoken of in code. I don't range far and wide on it, and do indeed find much of what I see shocking. On the other hand, there is a vein of quite sensible discussion, if you know where to look.

Anyone here used 4Chan? It may not even still be going, but a (somewhat bonkers) colleague once recommended. Said the totally unmoderated+anon structure lead to free speech and a lot of good/funny ideas. Google says:

... influential in the formation and popularization of prominent Internet memes, such as lolcats, Rickrolling, rage comics, wojaks, Pepe the Frog, as well as hacktivist and political movements, such as Anonymous and the alt-right.

Wow!

I've only looked on it when forums have posted links. It's an equal opportunities hate fest to be fair. There's nobody they don't dislike. It's the pinnacle of diversity, equity, and inclusivity in that respect.

They post photos of "gender affirming" surgeries (available elsewhere online, merely compiled there), which could be considered a public service, if it stops even one person from desisting.

@matticus, Booktok does indeed look jollygood. I've never been to 4chan, but have certainly heard about it. Free speech is an incredible cauldron of creativity.

It's good that Bluesky is in gaining popularity. It's not good for one platform to be the only show in town. It's certainly given the nonces a new place to call home. They'll have to do something about that eventually, just like Twitter did.

Wow!

Back in the day, yes. But it got progressively creepier so I gave up on it.

I've never heard of it. Every day a new low. True colours shining through.

I don't use social media other than this place, save for an old facebook account. It has no content, locked down to friends only, not even in my name. I just find messenger useful. I look at youtube quite a bit though - does that count if I leave comments sometimes?
