Youse seem to be missing him a fair bit...

Only in the same way Multiknob is missed.

Sorry, obviously is Makerfield rather than Wigan. It's going to motivate the Reform vote, given the slimmish majority in 2024.

I can only think Burham has offered him a job once he's pm. He's quite young, not ill (afaik), and there's no reason for him to stand down really. I wonder if the plan is that Simon stands as Manchester mayor. It's £18k a year more and less travelling.

Haha, Starmer deserves to be toast - he's re-drafted 'genius' McSweeney to help him navigate the weeks ahead (if the rumours are true - not confirmed). The fact that Mahmood is still in post despite resignation threats to unseat Starmer suggests that Starmer still hasn't worked out anything at all. "Lessons won't be learned", ought to be his epitaph. He's an idiot.

Labour MPs (mainly starmer supporters) seem to be repeatedly repeating what a disaster the election results were for them but not asking what nor what they should be doing about it. Starmer came out with "incremental change won't cut it” and then proceeded to nnounce policies that were somewhat less than incremental then a King's speach that was again less than "incremental".

It like they've all learnt that "I take responsibility" means wiping the slate clean, nothing more to do, like some "Get out of jail free card". No analysis as to what went wrong, why, where, etc. just "it was a disaster ... time to move on with business more cautious than usual".

The difficulty is looking at the margins is not comparing like with like. Saying Labour 2024 vs Labour 2026 isn't really valid when it's Simonds 2024 vs Burnham 2026.

That said it will be interesting to see how "gloves off" Labour go eg £5m undeclared "gifts", disavowed councillors, .

Might be relevant that Simons was parachuted in in 2024 and as such wasn't at all popular. I assume Burnham might be more popular but things have moved on a lot in 2 years. (I'm still trying to work out why a nasty little right wing shoot like Simons stood down for Burnham).
