Rather like the £10 Christmas bonus, another "prudent Gordon" freebie?

The WFA (another "prudent Gordon" invention) was in place, as a universal payment, to all intents and purposes, part of the State Pension, for 27 years, some "temporary" measure.

State Pension, Pension Credits, Attendance Allowance, and, probably more which I am aware of all have age as a criteria for entitlement.

£10 Christmas bonus was Barber, 1972.
 
Way pre-dates Brown I think.

Christmas Bonus. It was Tony Barber as Chancellor who introduced it in 1972 not Brown as asserted above.

OK, thank you for the correction, I wasn't retired in 1972 😂

Relatively speaking it must have been quite a perk in 1972, if adjusted for inflation, it would be approximately £150 today. 😂
