It might *look* as though it was abandoned, but it isn't as far as I am aware. NHS England rolled out the system to all surgeries. Some, like my surgery have technical expertise and it works brilliantly. I really do mean that. There are no waiting times for reception to answer calls, and appointments are plentiful because they triage so well. They allow non-urgents to be booked weeks in advance and know how to keep emergency slots for those needing "on the day".I happened to use the system within a day or so of its introduction and whilst it worked for me and I applaud the local health authority for looking at ways to relieve the pressure on GP appointments, the flaws were obvious. It was abandoned very quickly.
My previous surgery had the same system but was awful. That's why I moved (well that and them breaking the GP Contract and advising me to spend over £500 on travel vaccinations supposed to be provided for free by the NHS).
It's things like - the patient forms should be available at least from 8am to 6pm if not 24 hour. Opening them for 15 minutes until you have run out of appointments just diverts everyone to the phone or turning up in person, irate. They also have to be clear that if for any reason you can't use the web forms (disability, age etc) you can still phone the surgery. They will do the form for you. That's probably what your surgery are doing anywy.
