I thought his apology was reasonable, explaing the circumstances where he was 13/15 years ago. Possibly it wasn't embellished enough for some newspapers with the appropriate level of grovelling.

Well, there you go. People's judgement can be affected by their political views. Oodathortit.

I don't have much confidence, but I think the politics would be quite brutal for Starmer if he folds, given how hated Trump is and that British people do seem to care about animals (remember the horsemeat thing?)

Forgive my ignorance, but, what is the connection between chlorinated chicken and animal welfare?

I don’t feel that I would buy/consume it, given a choice, but, I have spent a considerable time in USA in the past, and, assume I have eaten chlorinated chicken, all be it unknowingly.

Basically in the US rather than spend money on looking after animals vaguely properly, they try to deal with the fallout when the animals are dead. They also use antibiotics routinely to make up for lack of proper care, and in chickens then literally try to wash out bacteria using chlorine.

The bottom line is that it takes time and expertise (hence expense) to look after animals well, and we can't have that getting in the way of cheap food and big profits, can we?

I thought his apology was reasonable, explaing the circumstances ...
The difficulty in current times is that if he genuinely regretted his previous expressed views he'd be saying what he said whereas if he just wants the outcry to settle so he can get on with his unchanged views then he'd be saying what he said.

As external observers learning through 3rd party reports how can we tell the difference?

I have no idea as to whether he is reformed or not and at present I can't see how ai could form a view.

Seems he's now going along with the unsupported theory he's being smeared (apparently without evidence).
