Of course they were removed for the vast majority of pensioners
He's scrabbling to garner support. His own back bench were in revolt.
We all know it was the local elections that started the ball rolling
And a great result has been achieved. If only more politicians had the balls to say "you know what - I was wrong"
Trouble is:
1. He hasn't actually U-turned. He's just said that at some point they will do something, no indication as to whether that might affect 3 pensioners, 3000 or 3m nor if it's full restoration or partial.
2. He hasn't said he/Reeves were wrong. He's claiming that improvements in the economy are allowing them to do this (presumably the higher than expected borrowing, higher than expected inflation, etc. being the "better economy").
I think politically & strategically he's got it wrong (again). In not saying what they'll do nor when he hasn't actually stopped the outrage, just reactivated it. Pensioners struggling suffering cold don't know if or when they might be in any better situation so no relief.
It continually frustrates me that Labour MPs go on about how they've "given pensioners more through the triple lock" but that only helps their pension keep pace with inflation, doesn't "give them more", just maybe helps keep up with their vost of living increases. MPs seeing inflation based increases as "giving more" just highlights their failure to understand inflation.
