Are there really valid reasons for cancelling these local elections?
The only party supporting their cancellation are Labour - all the others are against it.
Likewise, cancelling the visa of Eva Vlaardingerbroek just 3 days after she slated Starmer is not a good look, even if she is a far right politician.
But not much comment on either of these on 'ere.

Isn't it to do with boundary changes and having to have another election shortly afterwards so lots of expense for a short period? It might only be Labour supporting it at government level but there are Tory and Lib Dem Councils asking for the delay. Personally I'd rather see them go ahead as it will give a chance for Reform to take the Councils, give the electorate a year or two of them making a complete mess of things and therefore getting kicked back out and also giving an insight into what Reform running things looks like ahead of the General Election. If I was a Labour Minister I'd be doing everything possible to get them to go ahead.

The UK 10-year gilt yield rose to 4.37%, attempting to recover from a one-year low hit on Wednesday, as investors scaled back expectations of Bank of England rate cuts following stronger-than-expected GDP data. UK GDP grew 0.3% in November, rebounding from a 0.1% contraction in October and surpassing forecasts of a 0.1% increase. Over the three months to November, GDP expanded 0.1%, defying expectations of a 0.2% contraction. Market expectations for monetary easing have shifted slightly. Traders now price in roughly 46 basis points of cuts by year-end, with an 84% probability of a second 25-basis-point reduction in December. A first cut remains fully priced in by June, with an 88% chance of occurring in April. Prior to the GDP release, expectations had priced in just under 48 basis points of easing for the remainder of the year, with 23 basis points by April.

On the local election point, Labour are claiming that there's no point having these if the councils are being dissolved/ merged into unitary authorities sometime soon (so I have read). I suspect that they have been looking at the polls and are running scared.

I worry as it's politicians deciding on delayed democracy particularly when the party deciding on delays is expected to get a dysmal result.. Democratic processes should be sacrosanct.
It's always said if you don't like what they are doing you can vote them out of office, except now you can't.

Funny that other councils run by parties other than Labour don't seem to be wanting to delay.
