This seems to be flying under the radar, funding for physics and astronomy is being cut by 30%, Starmer doing a Trump on science

https://www.theguardian.com/science...sts-cuts-funding-projects-research-facilities

This will cause researchers to leave for places where they can get better opportunities, and they will not come back.
And at a time where we should be increasing funding and attricting the fabulous tallent looking to depart the US as Trump does what Trump does to science.

Asia, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Europe will benefit. It is really hard to understand why they are doing this.

Guessing, he needs to be able to cut taxes before the next election. They are failing on creating growth so that won't be generate tax income so they have to reduce expenditure ie austerity but so nobody calls it austerity and cutting scientific research won't attract the "austerity" label.

Thought you'd be delighted as it is a Maga type policy.

That said, if we want economic growth, the Government needs gto do something about the UK having the highest energy prices in Europe as that is also stiffling growth

I think it is - there has just been a huge renewables auction. Admittedly they need to pull their finger out and get some nukes built as well.

For the UK who produces 1% of all worldwide C02 emissions.

Ir is suicidal for the economy to race towards net zero when other countries like China will not do the same.

The UK is already in a dire state financially, bankruptcy will do nothing.

Im all for green transport and energy, not for lemmings running off nearby cliff.

There needs to be a rethink about the pace and strategy

He's already politically cooked, so is effectively gone rougue against British people.

Nothing he does will restore his chances

The next election is still three years away.

Lot of water to flow under the bridge before then.

That said I think it's accepted that he's goosed. He simply cannot 'do' politics in the performative mode that's needed.

If they hold Denton that might buy him time but I suspect any challengers are content that he stays in place long enough to be in the hot seat when the sh1t hits the fan in May.

In fact, were an election kicked off after Denton, then unless there's a coronation the new leader would probably not be in post until after May.
