Heart breaking.

One of the sad things is, as mentioned in the article, the EU were actually helping with grants, but, Brexit (which the majority in the area voted for) stopped that.

As the article mentions, there is 40 years of decline to reverse, two or three generations of hopelessness.

I am reasonably sure that Reform is not the answer, but, Labour have had their chance, and failed miserably. Desperation produces poor decisions.

The Labour MP, droning on about the £100/week extra for pensioner former miners. Where does he think that money will go? These people are 60+, those with a modicum of adventure will spend it on a foreign holiday. Many will buy illegal Suron electric motor bikes etc for their disaffected grandchildren.

There's nothing to be "reasonably sure" about when it comes to Reform. They will be a disaster, as they've already proven with the limited amounts of power they've got.

People seem to believe they'll get some kind of "I voted for this" style MAGA "revolution", but as USAnians are finding out, they won't.

Reform might not be the cure, but the failure of mainstream political parties to deliver for these people.over generations is the disease. Maybe there isn't a cure and this is what national decline looks like? Dunno.

Welcome to Eeyore's world. We (as a country) have been living beyond our means for decades.
Nothing on the horizon indicates improvement. Reform will speed up the process.

I agree, but, when the alternatives have failed them, can’t you see that people will try anything.

If you were terminally ill (heaven forbid) and mainstream medicine wasn’t fixing you, I dare say you would try any snake oil salesman’s “cure”

The next government will have to make some extremely hard decisions, actions to turn around this country. I said this a while back. This means all of us will suffer.

Necessary medicine to cure the patient
