Now I'm confused.

The obr’s numbers looked broadly similar to those in the budget, though expected debt costs fell slightly. The real story, though, may be what the obr didn’t yet account for: sharply lower migration projections, which will constrain economic growth, and mounting pressure on the government to raise defence spending. Those questions could make the budget next autumn less boring than Ms Reeves would like.

It's not the statement of the bleedin' obvious I'm confused about, it's the fact that it's in the Telegraph.

It’s interesting to listen to the yanks bleating on about the “special relationship,” when it suits them,
After all, we have heard precious little from them when the UK has talked about it, in terms of tariffs etc.
If there is any special relationship under Trump’s term of office, it’s a one way special relationship.

I criticised Starmer earlier in the week, but he’s right. There is no special relationship when the UK exists simply to do Donnie’s bidding. Everyone knows that the Tangerine Dreamer will stab the UK in the back at the drop of an Epstein file, just like the rest of the world.

So well done Starmer, for finally drawing a line in the Iranian sand.

I don't see Trump laying into Starmer as anything to do with US-UK relationship rather it's a loyalty to Trũmp issue. Trūmp starting a war against Iran has not been through Congress, has not been justified under International Law, allies not forewarned or briefed on plans. It's the actions of just on individual, Trùmp. This is Trúmp expecting blind loyalty to him. He expects countries to demonstrate their blind loyalty to Trümp.

And had the UK blindly followed Trümp's whims, 2 weeks time he's be threatening to invade another of our allies or imposing higher tariffs on us.

Personally I'd be telling UK if they don't like what's happening in Chagos Archipelago then they can leave. Their choice.

That said I see Starmer did cave anyway.
