What a situation, Andrew Neil offers the current naval capability of the UK

The current state of the Royal Navy:
2 aircraft carriers — neither operational.
6 Type 45 destroyers (our most powerful warships) — one operational (in Cyprus).
7 Type 23 frigates (less powerful, much older) — three operational
5 Astute class nuke-powered subs — one operational (in Arabian Sea?).
Surely those responsible for this appalling state of unreadiness (a national embarrassment if ever there was one)— political, civilian and military — should be fired/charged.
Their incompetence has effectively left us without a navy.
Quite an achievement for an ancient island nation

"Sorry Sir, dog ate my homework". Record of Government business not backed-up, conveniently lost within a short time after it became apparent that that record would be needed, specifically the record of messages in relation to the flawed appointment of a crucial Government role, that of US Ambassador. Even worse when the person largely responsible for the appointment was appointing a good friend yet, oh dear, no backup and phone stolen in a "timely manner".

I'm sure that in the history of education it has happened that a dog ate somebody's homework.

Given the minuscule numbers this affects, this feels like Mahmood making anti-black-foreigner noise for performative reasons, with no real logical justification.

Maybe they are waking up and realising that they are not only drawing attention to immigration as an issue, but recruiting for Reform while they do it. McSweeney Muppets.

I suspect that Mahmood will hang on until the local elections in May, and after a complete drubbing, Starmer will hang on by dropping the Blue Labour crap, and Mahmood with it, in order to placate the vast majority of Labour MPs who aren't Blue Labour. It could be a bit of a bloodbath.

It would be more controllable though if they do that before the local elections, so it doesn't look like a knee-jerk reaction.

There was a bit of a message from Denmark this week regarding voter response to immigration policy.

He was selected not elected
What are you wittering about? Starmer? He was elected. Labour leaders are appointed via a vote by their membership. Doesn't matter how much funding a candidate has, it's always an vote that decides. Same with the Conservatives. The funding is for the leadership campaign to get selected.
