What are you wittering about? Starmer? He was elected. Labour leaders are appointed via a vote by their membership. Doesn't matter how much funding a candidate has, it's always an vote that decides. Same with the Conservatives. The funding is for the leadership campaign to get selected.

If you dont get "selected" to be in the ballot, you presumably cannot be elected?, so, funding may be relevant,

I would have thought Funding is highly relevant in USA Presidential Elections, for example, ie the funding may not guarantee election, but, there is a strong correlation.

Maybe they are waking up and realising that they are not only drawing attention to immigration as an issue, but recruiting for Reform while they do it. McSweeney Muppets.

I suspect that Mahmood will hang on until the local elections in May, and after a complete drubbing, Starmer will hang on by dropping the Blue Labour crap, and Mahmood with it, in order to placate the vast majority of Labour MPs who aren't Blue Labour. It could be a bit of a bloodbath.

It would be more controllable though if they do that before the local elections, so it doesn't look like a knee-jerk reaction.

How has it taken so long for so-called strategists to realise the blindingly obvious that people on here have been saying for over a year?

I'm still not sure that they've yet fully realised, but somehow McSw and Glasman had cast a spell over Starmer the the Only Way was the Blue Labour Way. With McSw gone, I suspect other people are managing to talk to Starmer.

Reading Dunt's book on Westminster, the dysfunction of government is partly down to the ludicrousness of 10 Downing St and how it effectively heavily restricts who can spend enough time with the PM, given where his physical office is, and the amount of time he is doing other stuff that the PM must do. The book really is utterly eye-opening, and makes you wonder how Westminster works at all, such is the inherent dysfunction.

Isn't the point that it doesn't?, it simply stumbles along, regardless of party in power.

US election funding is a massive thing, you need a huge 'war chest' just to run for the Presidency as costs like media buys, campaign staff, travel etc. are phenomenal. To put it in context, Kamala Harris raised over $1 billion in 4 months!

Excellent (and no!). I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, in a WTF kind of way.

I’m glad somebody understands how it works.
