Far be it from me to have to try & explain something to one of the great Understanders Of Scottish Politics - but she remains a highly emblematic public figure within the both the SNP and the broader Scottish independence movement.

Operation Branchform, as I'm sure you know, despite being the sort of investigation a halfway competent accountant could have done & dusted in 6 weeks, has dragged on for over 40 months with the constant threat of re-arrests & charges hanging over everyone who's been in the crosshairs, including Ms Sturgeon.

Obviously, I'm absolutely sure it's not for nakedly political reasons that it's been extended & extended, constantly jumping back into the headlines every time there's a sticky-looking moment for the Union in Scotland!

You may be correct if it was an audit / accountancy investigation, but its not it is a criminal investigation and evidence that is admissible in a criminal court is needed.

Quite so. I know they haven't handed the Motorhome Of Doom & Dishonesty back, but there's been no update of the thousands of yellow clicky-pens they bagged up and impounded.

Who’s the thief?

The police have been investigating this for three and a half years now, with no conclusion reached or in sight. Murrell has been charged but is still waiting for a court date, if indeed there is even to be a prosecution. But we could have saved all the theatre, hassle and delays by just coming straight to you, obviously.
