A lot of schools have come under immense pressure as many of the "traditional" books (often by white western authors set in a western world) are not catering to everyone's needs i.e those of different faiths, cultures and ancestrory. Some have responded negatively and called it "wokism". That was my sisters experience anyway, and she was dept head and head of english

Woke in schools = teaching kids to be kind, share and include everyone, when we all know they should be taught to push, shove and grab.

At a slight tangent, as a white kid I never identified with any of the story books and children’s books when I was growing up because they always seemed to me about middle class, smug families, derring do brave officer types and public schools.
