Apparently Banksy has cost the taxpayer £150,000 in removal and security costs:

Banksy isn't for me, but I wouldn't call his stuff vandalism. I reckon if he didn't play on the whole anonymity thing nobody would give much of a toss about him as it's mostly pretty basic stencil stuff.

There's loads of Prefab77 and Mul stuff around here, some of it commissioned and some of it just randomly about the place, which is just accepted as part of the urban landscape.

I would argue anything painted on a property without the owners permission is vandalism although I suspect you’d object less if you could get it hacked off and sell it for millions. I know nothing about art but to me there is nothing clever or special about it and I would say the same about whatever social / political commentary he is trying to make.

The cynic in me has often wondered if there are spots or buildings where he's asked to put work to generate interest/controversy.

As for whatever point he's trying to make, totally agree - vaguely witty titles are not a statement.

I'm pretty sure Ray Harryhausen said he'd used them as an inspiration for the (unimaginatively named) Bubo in Clash of the Titans.
