OK, mods need not apply. I am starting a protest thread for Tour venting, worshipping and bullshitting.
So post your alternative Tour stuff here.

Jonas sounds off about Visma’s rigid regime.

Clearly he wasn’t a happy bunny.

I think he's possibly a bit too family focussed for the pro cycling lifestyle. That's not a criticism but he is fortunate to be in a position where he could wield some power. It would be interesting to know if the changes only apply to the team superstar if if the rest of the team benefit from his stance.

I am reminded of the fact that they used to announce their Tour team months in advance. It smacks of rigidity, which backs up Jonas’s point about assigning his racing program.

Given that he has his preferred riders, I would guess they would at least partially benefit from his negotiations.
The rest of the squad, probably no gains, I would guess.

So basically, now I'm here, the first thing you do is post the Jonas bait?

Ok ok...

For what it's worth, I think it's just a fairly standard employee-negotiates-working-conditions thing rather than the bust-up it's been sold as in this article. There was already some talk of this last year, when a Danish newspaper waited until just before the Tour to drop a sensationalised interview where his wife (and agent) said similar.

In the peloton Danes are maybe getting a rep for being protective of their family life - Mads P famously doesn't do altitude camps

That's fair. Negotiations with those successful enough have been going on for decades.
Think Hinault didn't get preferential treatment? Merckx?

In his TV2 interview yesterday he made the point that he thought cycling in general should try and adapt more to the needs of the individual rider - that it had worked out well for him but the same principles should apply to others

My own point to make on a venting thread here is that when Pog's time as emperor eventually starts coming to an end, there's going to be a queue of people waiting to stab him in the back. Nobody likes being told what they can and can't do, and having this much control over races won't be appreciated long term. Yesterday's stage was a case in point. Riders that need a good showing for their next contract and teams that need some visibility to attract a new sponsor aren't going to be very happy if UAE keep mucking them around in races or stealing the bread from their mouths by trying to win absolutely everything
