My prediction is that Trump's presidency will start to fall apart very soon.

The new director of the FBI told his employees to ignore the request to list their previous weeks achievements for the benefit of the South African illegal immigrant. It will be interesting to see if this turns into an actual stand off between the two or if it will be fudged over.

Musk truly is has no empathy for ordinary people.
Can you imagine the backlash for the unions if that sort of thing happened here
And rightly so, it’s a total abuse of an employee and their contract.

It's an ideological purge and it will fail sooner rather than later.

I agree with the first part. For the second part, I fear that it won't, in the sense that the destruction of public life is the target, and there's no mechanism to stop it. Now we know what living in Germany in the 1930s was like.

True, but i think Trump will soon be buried in legal issues that will dominate his remaining presidency. The USA for all of its troubles, is not Argentina in 1980.

Can you imagine what might happen to an agent when the reply "For the last few days I have been following orders and infiltrating the Far-Right organisation <xyz> to identify the ringleaders and their contacts within the Republican Party ..."

I'm not sure what the comparison is. I could understand if you had mentioned Germany 1933 or Argentina and Chile in the early 1970s.

It's becoming clear that Tesla have succeeded despite Musk rather than because of him. It seems like the same management style at doge as tesla - fire lots of people at random, then have to re-hire them when you realise you need them. If this continues, the US will be zarked pretty quickly.

It is probably worse. In 1980 the Argentinaian dictators were only interested in massacring lefties, with the help of the US, not in destroying their world leading research institutions.

TL;DR Trump tried to stop NIH grant funding, but there was a court injunction. Trump just stopped the funding revie committees from meeting. So funding has stopped regardless of injunction.

We are only seeing the beginning. It is only going to get worse.

And the stupid thing about that and something all business people know is that the capable ones fired will quickly get other jobs and won't want to come back and the less capable ones will be glad to return with net effect of less efficient, less capable Civil Service.

Same with voluntary redundancies, more capable know they'll quickly be snapped up by private sector so take the pay-off whilst the less capable stay in post 'cos they know they'll struggle to find another job.

All this " you have to tell me what you have been doing" is part of a targetted route to get rid of people

They work out who to target then look for their emails

They can use computers to find the emails
no email - find you resigned so your out - then they take to to the courts and it takes months if they are lucky
any email - and we can dig through it and find ground to "out" you to the public or just sack you

they are just asking people to set themselves up for future actions if they ever piss anyone important off
