And hubris.

Probably more that than greed. He can have whatever he wants. He just thinks he knows what is best. He did a blinder with Paypal, Tesla and SpaceX, but now he seems to have fallen down his own rabbit hole.

What makes Musk think that because he's rich he can start interfering in political governance in other countries? His now outspoken support for AfD seems to have cause a bit of an outcry in Germany (outside AfD supporters).
There are many similar people who do similar things, it's no difference from the persons in the pub having a conversation about it other then if you're wealthy outlets like media are a bit more interested.

Personally I don't regard him as being particularly clever. He may be rich but people can get rich from being in the right place at the right time. I once worked for an "entrepreneur" who was pretty poor at business but created his successful company because he was "right place right time" and he took the opportunity (he actually had little choice about taking it). I consider Musk the same. If he was good businessman he would not be destroying other people's investment in Twitter.
I do think Musk he dones some thngs right that proved more than just being in the right place at the same time. However that doesn't mean the best place for him is at the absolute top of a company with nobody being able to stop him. He did pretty well at Paypal because he wasn't at the absolute top he tried to rename Paypal to X before but his paypal co-owners didn't agree and thus it didn't happen.

But even if he thinks he's a good business person what make him start thinking he's good at politics and determining legislatures, particularly where others rather than himself will be suffering the consequences of his misjudgements. He seems to have moved beyond "self-interest" in his interference in UK and German politics.
i don't agree whilst i don't agree with the goals of those tearing down the country against ''immigrants'' only weeks prior a other groups was tearing down some area's of the country because one of them got stepped on the head whilst abusing security guards/airport police it really doesn't take more then willing to not look the other way to see that first group is handled much more aggressively in terms of prosecution and then i'm not only talking about those trying to torch and hotel with people in there. (i would say harsher punishment for those is justified)
But also prosecuting people because of a retweet? Again if it was about a slightly other topic (just stop oil for example) this whole forum would understand how 1984 that is. But it's about racistst so it's ok right?
I rather arrogantly regard myself as pretty good at one discipline but recognise that I'm very poor at many other things. I consider it a sign of a stupid person when they cannot recognise their own limitations.

Well if that's you're definition of stupid Musk and many others certainly are. But it's also a important driver for why some people are more succesfull then others.

PayPal was doing payments before Musk joined the company (he didn't start it, wasn't his idea). He was thrown out of PayPal after being there for only a few months.

Ian.

And made over $100 million when PayPal was sold... I agree with @icowden - that's a blinder.

Unhinged. Musk has changed his name on xitter to Kekius Maximus.

This is what I find completely unhinged. How silly things like a change of social media name affect the prices of companies and cryptocurrency.. The world has gone mad.

"The move has sent ripples through the cryptocurrency world, sending the value of a memecoin - a digital currency inspired by internet memes - that shares the same name skyrocketing."

Although it's only reported about Musk agreeing with somebody else
Elon Musk agrees with Ron Paul's call to 'ELIMINATE foreign aid'
Billionaire business tycoon Elon Musk, who President-elect Donald Trump tapped to lead the new cost-cutting Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), agreed with former Rep. Ron Paul's suggestion that the U.S. should end foreign aid.

"Here’s an easy one for @DOGE !" Paul declared in a post on X. "ELIMINATE foreign aid!"

So he's not directly proposing it, just supporting it. And much will depend on him not falling out with Trump and his retaining power, etc.

But it does raise the concern when a far right oligarch with questionable moral stance starts questioning money helping people other than "his own kind".

I find it another concerning aspect.
