I'd like to offer a different perspective.
We live in exciting times - as long as you accept that abject, gut-churning, bladder-releasing horror is a form of excitement. All of our civilisations have reached the point of implosion and collapse, the world itself is burning and flooding, its atmosphere toxifying, soon entire populations will be on the march as their lands become uninhabitable, food & water become scarce and resources dwindle. All the while, the worst people on the planet become have grown wealthier and more powerful, until they have finally achieved ascendancy, and are poised on the brink of unleashing their Pandora's Box of holocausts.
And we, we privileged onlookers - we get to watch it happen! We get to watch cities burning, aircraft tumbling from the sky and exploding in shattering fireballs like some Hollywood special effect, we get to see the ragtag, starving hordes butchering each other with makeshift weapons over the last bottle of Lidl knockoff Evian, we get to witness the death of every hope, the mutilation of every dream, and the ushering in of the great, endless silence as the last fire, starved forever of oxygen, goes dark and the last lifeform draws its final wheezing, rattling breath. OK - maybe we won't get to see that bit.
But these are exciting times! Interesting times! These are the End Times - and we have ringside seats!
Pass the popcorn.
