Atesh (Crimean Tatar: Ateş, lit. 'Fire'; Russian and Ukrainian: Атеш) is a military partisan movement in the occupied territories of Ukraine, as well as in the territory of Russia,[1] created by Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars in September 2022 as a result of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine in 2022.[2][3]

History

[edit]
The movement was founded at the end of September 2022. On September 26, the oath of the soldier "Atesh" was published on the official Telegram channel, and on September 29, a video appeal of one of the partisans was made public with an appeal to join the movement.[4][5][6]

Selection of activities

November 11, 2022: Partisans of the movement killed 30 Russian servicemen in hospitals in Simferopol.[7][8]
December 11, 2022: "Atesh" took responsibility for setting fire to barracks with Russian soldiers in the village Sovietske.[9]
January 31, 2023: Partisans claim they killed two Russian National Guard officers.[10]
February 10, 2023: "Atesh" claimed responsibility for a car bomb attack that resulted in the deaths of two Russian soldiers and the hospitalisation of two others in occupied Nova Kakhovka.[11]
March 14, 2023: Atesh claimed to have killed the deputy head of the military administration of Nova Kakhovka in a bomb attack.[12]

May 6, 2023: Partisans claimed responsibility for an assassination attempt of Zakhar Prilepin, a Russian writer and member of the A Just Russia — For Truth Party, in which a car bomb exploded as he crossed the Russian border from occupied Donbas. The car's driver was killed and Prilepin was seriously wounded, but survived.[15]
July 14, 2023: Partisans claimed responsibility for an ambush in Kherson that destroyed two Russian military trucks and killed 6 Russian military personnel.[16]
July 17, 2023: The Guardian interviewed Mustafa Dzhemilev in Kyiv about Atesh. He reported that Atesh maintains an online class for Russian draftees to carry out acts of sabotage claiming that 4,000 Russian troops have enrolled. He also claims that upwards of 1,000 Tatars would be willing to take up arms against Russian forces in Crimea, if they were just given the arms to do so. Dzemilev also stated that he hopes that after the liberation of Crimea there will be an amendment to the Constitution of Ukraine to turn Crimea into an autonomous "National Republic" with the Tatars as its indigenous people with special status.[17]
August 30, 2023: Atesh claimed responsibility for bombing a United Russia campaign office in Nova Kakhovka killing three Russian guards, and destroyed documents supporting the upcoming September 2023 regional elections.[18]
September 25, 2023: Atesh claimed that they provided information used to plan Operation Crab Trap. They reportedly gained leaked information about the Black Sea Fleet by bribing Russian officers disgruntled by missed salary payments.[19]

February 15, 2025: Atesh fighters sabotaged a Russian RP-377LA electronic warfare vehicle by pouring sugar into its fuel tank.[
April 24, 2025: Believed to be Atesh operatives firebombed a Russian Su-30SM at the Rostov-on-Don airfield with tail number 35.[24]
May 8, 2025: the Ukrainian partisan group Atesh claimed responsibility for a sabotage attack near Moscow, disrupting communications of several Russian military units. According to Atesh, an agent destroyed equipment at a substation in Mogiltsy.[25]
June 1, 2025: Atesh fighters undertook a sabotage operation on a railway in Donetsk Oblast, during Operation Spider's Web on the same day.[26]

How widely reported are these attacks reported in Russia? Even if press is gagged and can't report, an oil refinery bursting into flames is rather obvious and one would expect word to get around.
Russia reports everything like Russia does, Putins Russia i should say, so it's either a ''random fire'' they will investigate, a small fire from debris of shot down projectiles or any given combination of above.
it's a bit of a shame they banned RT news etc. because despite being adjusted as the english outlet it was still a very good resource they get an quick insight into the Russian mindset, especially if you have news you can compare.

Kyiv independent:

The number of HIV and hepatitis cases among Russian soldiers is on the rise, as Moscow appears to be deliberately recruiting those sick — even encouraging their enlistment.

According to the report from Carnegie Politika, the number of HIV cases detected in the Russian armed forces increased 13 times by the end of 2022, and was 20 higher by the end of 2023, compared to the start of the all-out war.

Several factors are at play — blood transfusions for wounded soldiers, reusing syringes in field hospitals, and soldiers engaging in drug use and unprotected sex.

Under Russian law, people living with HIV, tuberculosis, or hepatitis C should be exempt from military service. Yet, since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, independent Russian media have reported that HIV-positive individuals continue to receive draft notices, either because military officials are unaware of their health status or because they simply don’t care.

To replenish military ranks, Russia is also recruiting prisoners with infectious diseases, as well as residents of Russian-occupied territories, who don't have the leeway to escape the draft.

Flamingo FP-5 cruise missile: launched from a simple ramp, range of 3000km's, payload 1000kg's.
Accuracy +/- 14m (meters) now in the hands of the Ukrainians. 9 months to develop. Way ahead of decrepit Russian technology.
Current production is 1 per day. Plans to build 200 per month by October. It's not sure how much efficacy there is in the production numbers but it is a potential game changer.

One thought: at what point (if there is) does the continued destruction of gas and oil plants affect Europe's energy needs?
Kyiv Independent is reporting that Ukraine also has a second cruise missile which looks to be ready to go; the longer range Neptune. Although the announcement of the Flamingo cruise missile may make the Neptune redundant.
At least there is plenty of opportunity for field testing both missiles  and of course both have the advantage over missiles such as the Storm Shadow, that there is no supplying government to put limitations on use.
