I think they already knew. Russia had the lorry drivers remember and not all the attacks were successful, so they would have known small drones were used. They won't be able to use that tactic again, so they revealed it, plus it's a PR coup over Putin who now knows that huge damage was done to his air force using simple drones.

It makes Putin look weak - the vultures may already be circling him, and this might help. If Putin goes, then a new leader might respond to a face saving operation.

Or any Putin successor might be even more hardline.

Can anyone point to anything that Trump has done to get this resolved?

He clearly had one plan, which was to bully Ukraine into giving up. Plan A has failed and he doesn’t have a plan B. Because he has no leverage to make Putin do anything.

And now he has agreed that Russia need to retaliate, basically giving them the green light to do so.

All rather sad really.

Trump never does anything. All he does is express his wishes and expects them to be met. It has worked in the past but he is at the big table now.

Kazakhstan turns it's back on Russia having secured a deal with the UK and Singapore. Singapore opposed Putin's invasion of Ukraine and imposed sanctions on Russia. Kazakhstan is completing a new shell production facility and will be making shells that are compatible with NATO and Ukrainian artillery. They have apparently cut off the supply of nitro-glycerine to Russia which will mean Russia will have to source this elsewhere. The NG i essential for ammunition production.
It seems as though Kazakhstan wants to align itself with the West capitalising on Russia's weakened state to disentangle themselves from this old allegiance with the suggestion that Russia is not the ally it claims to be.
The Kazakhstan defence general of 3.5 years was removed from his position as it was deemed he was too closely aligned with Russia.

Hmm, I am not sure Kazakhstan is completely turning against Russia. According to this report, the plant will be producing 122mm, 152mm and 155mm shells. 122mm and 152mm are the old Soviet calibers, which despite Ukraine's outstanding efforts, Russia still seems to have a plentiful supply of artillery requiring these shells.

The larger shells are also compatible with Ukrainian artillery which a lot of it is Russian anyway.

Ukraine said it carried out an overnight drone strike on the Kirovske airfield in Crimea and claimed that multiple Russian helicopters and an air defence system were destroyed in the strike.

According to a Ukraine Security Service (SBU) statement, the drones targeted areas where Russian aviation units, air defence assets, ammunition depots and unmanned aerial vehicles were located. The agency claimed that Mi-8, Mi-26, and Mi-28 helicopters, as well as a Pantsir-S1 missile and gun system were destroyed.

Ukraine uses that calibre also still in a lot of their hardware(as a significant part is the same as Russia uses be it improved in some cases. and most likely so does kazakhstan, in addition it's likely they are in the difficult position where they provide opposition to Russia but not to much because they don't want to be the next target.

Perhaps they're thinking that they are no longer a target because Russia is weakened.

The U.S. getting closer to admitting what we already know.

"The US has halted some weapons shipments to Kyiv, the White House has said, as Russia's war against Ukraine has intensified."
