In practical terms though, at this stage, I think it makes no difference, as Trump wouldn't commit to troops for NATO, so it's mostly up to Europe in any case (which doesn't fill one with optimism, I'll grant you).

If the US is allowed to make a better choice in 2028, then things could change considerably.

I agree. Putin is only emboldened due to Trump's "compliance". One could (if one were a conspiracist) go as far as to say that Putin gambled on his interference in the 2024 election returning Trump as president allowing him to pursue his present course.

The situation in Ukraine and Europe would look very different indeed without Trump in power.

This analysis is correct sir. The dumb conspiracy theory lot were conned into thinking Trump was going to drain the swamp and change the world for the better. The intelligent people saw Trump for what he is and tried to warn people much like remainers warning about Brexit over & over again, but it fell on deaf ears. Some people eventually realise & it’s all too little too late.

That's a thing.
Russia hit two Turkish ships in the Black Sea and Erdogan went begging to Putin to have a ceasefire in hitting commercial shipping. Putin declined.
More stuff is going through the Caspian Sea as a result of the Black Sea being too unpredictable and dangerous.
Ships carrying arms from Iran to Russia have now been hit in the Caspian Sea ha ha (see post above). Iran is an ally of Russia.

The pattern of Ukrainian drone strikes is emerging. This on top of a massive multiplication of drone production. One (probably over optimistic commentator) predicted 3000 drones per day into Russia - more like 1000 but if it has military or commercial value, it's a target. Ukraine is exceeding Russian drone production. Russian drones have a success rate of about 8 to 10% only. The Ukrainians are much more effective with the same oil refineries being hit repeatedly and military targets taken out with little resistance within the backdrop of very weak air defences. Putin has withdrawn countless air defence systems from other areas to protect Moscow.

He lives in a bunker. He can die in a f*cking bunker.

If all this is true, all they have to do is keep chipping away at Russia. The cost will cripple them. It would be better to peace deal pull back & re-build their economy. It’s not all black & white though, snakes & rats are trying to keep the war machine moving.

On a different note (with less boom):

If Putin is empowered by Trump but Trump is an ailing fool with low popularity and providing there are fair elections in November, Putin has only got an ally for a very short period of time.
The Trump administration is so inept and so outwardly corrupt, it's a weak ally.
I have always maintained that Zelensky should not agree to any peace deal not simply because Putin cannot be trusted but because whilst the continuing conflict will unfortunately result in more Ukrainian deaths, the long term security would still be in doubt and the threat will continue.
A peace deal will only serve to help Putin re-group and Ukraine needs to keep chipping away at the increasingly impotent lame Lion just as Milzy suggested.

Did I miss a competition on who could do the longest post with the most quotes?

Did you read any of it? Have you anything to say?

This does seem to be getting past the 'if' territory into exactly 'how'. We'll see...

That is nowhere near as certain as we would like to believe.

I suppose that one of the upsides of the ICE and National Guard deployments in various places has been in mobilising neighbourhood teams to frustrate them, as it's fairly certain that the same tactics will be used nationwide to deter people with brown skin from voting.

They haven't got the personnel to cover even a fraction of the country.
The only way would be with the assistance of the military and I get the feeling that they are struggling to get the military on board. Any wonder?
