Rosenberg: Russia's Victory Day parade with no tanks a sign Ukraine war not going to plan

"Our tanks are busy right now," Russian MP Yevgeny Popov tells me. "They are fighting. We need them more on the battlefield than on Red Square."

"But with the war [on Ukraine] in its fifth year," I suggest, "not only has Russia not secured victory, but under pressure from Ukraine you're scaling back the parade. Some would say that's embarrassing."

"What other choice do we have?" Popov replies. "Nato countries, Ukraine and Great Britain's weapons, your king and your prime minister, are threatening us."

The sad thing there is that Popov has more awareness of the proxy war that we are in than the average Brit. Unsurprisingly I suppose.

Casting it as a proxy war by the UK takes some pretty absurd mental gymnastics. So you think that the UK somehow forced Russia to invade Ukraine, so that we could send them some weapons to defend themselves? Seems like the UK lives rent-free in putin's head.

I was thinking that blaming UK was just a way of justifying to the Russian public why the war is dragging on i.e. Ukraine is getting help and its not fair.

By helping Ukraine (and not very subtly) we are effectively fighting Russia. It is not said out loud but that is what is happening. I did say that the average Brit seems to be unaware of this. Reason? Russia wins in Ukraine, Russia moves further west. How far till we get directly involved?

May 9th Jollies (in the almost complete absence of air defences around Russia pulled out to protect the paranoid Putin for his pathetic red square parade.
  • Ukraine strikes FSB HQ in Grozny, Chechnya (I kid you not - you can Google all of this and the following. Plus another FSB office I cannot even pronounce.

  • Major oil hub in Yaroslavl hit. The single air defence missile seen, launched to protect it hit an apartment block. 700km's away from Ukraine, by-passing Moscow on the way.
  • Rostov logistical warehouse hit and burnt for almost 12 hours. This warehouse services huge parts of southern Russia.
  • SBU struck the 'Perm' (Permnaftoogsintez) oil refinery.
  • Unknown target near Sochi on the Black se coast struck.
  • 120 flights cancelled across Russia

It's official: Russia is f*cked, I mean proper f*cked.
There are now compilation video's of Russian military equipment and many (rail) fuel tankers and locomotives being taken out - there's no where to store fuel and it has no where to go.
It's party time but not for Russians.

Get the popcorn out.

Does this mean that Putin's Donnie's request for a ceasefire has been ignored?
It could just be that my definition of ceasefire is outdated. Certainly seems to be the case as I look around the world.
