The current heatwave has been notable for its easterly winds.

Cllimate warming seeming so random on its impact I am wondering, are prolonged easterlies common?

The most common wind directions in Britain are South-Westerly and North-Easterly, so yeah, I'd say they were a pretty regular occurrence.

Extraordinarily drying winds

It's pretty much climate emergency already here*, if you're a farmer / grower .
At least westerlies might bring some rain.

None on the easterly horizon whatsoever.

*And I'm one of the slightly better placed ones, having a deep borehole and the means of distribution.

But again, that relies on westerlies almost always, dominating.

Exactly Kielder is only ginormous so long as there's anything to replenish it..

Same same the vast underground aquifer to be found in the Old Devonian sandstone underneath this side of this valley.

Still there was talk of all this being a very real risk, many decades ago.


But once again more 'project fear' eh???

Arwen was devastating in that our forests are not used to north easterlies.
No worries, big business says 'la, la,la'.

Walked past some anglers who would have paid top dollar for fishing here, but nothing doing in this weather.

However, it is thought that it will cause a 2024 heatwave. Winds of change.

Assuming you're in Boldon then we're in broadly similar areas. Arrange mine accordingly also, it can be brutal at times!

We can all rest in our sleep now a higher power has spoken.

Seems the cold north sea off the coast here is now several degrees warmer.
This actually preceeded the June heatwave. Logically this also influenced those easterlies we were having.
