Is it official now? Conservatives = Centre right. Reform = Right. Pick your party to suit.

My 1st thoughts are:

a. Might make the Conservatives more electable as losing the more extreme prominent element would allow them to move back towards the centre (many of whom have probably already given-up on Starmer).

b. Might make a leadership challenge more likely as many thought Jenrick had best prospects (at least with the membership). Maybe his departure might allow more moderate MPs to stand better chances allowing new leader without Jenrick taking party to extreme right.

They could even, dare I say it, claw back some of the people who lent their vote to Labour at the last election to get rid of the BrexiTory Party but who are disappointed at the lack of ambition of Starmer in the EU direction and their Reformy policies towards immigration.

Mind you, when one of the 'sensible' candidates to replace Badenoch is Cleverly, my enthusiasm tapers off somewhat. Though to be fair to Cleverly, his eyes didn't swivel, and he didn't look overly enthusiastic with what he was being asked to do, IIRC.

One of the challenges for Färange accepting Jenrick into Reform must be that Jenrick want to be in charge, wants to be ruler and doesn't follow the party line when it suits him to tangent off. Not an attitude that fits with the way Farāge operates.

I suppose additionally that Starmer has been making it so easy for Badenoch to win debates/policy that her standing as leader is getting more secure meaning Jenrick less likely to get his opportunity to take over.

You could see it as bad for the party (losing an MP) but good for Badenoch (losing her main rival for party leadership).
