Something nasty in the woodshed
That historical fact is hew to me (and interesting).
You can run your L400 on oil in winter providing you add 50% diesel. I would advise the addition of diesel in summer too: 10 to 15%.
You are aware of (I presume), the following:
Due to the polymerisation of engine oil through the combustion of cooking oil, makes the engine oil very thick. Therefore, it's imperative to change the oil, oil filter and fuel filter every 5000 miles.
I thoroughly recommend deploying a dedicated 'Red' in line fuel filter as paper element filters break down quicker in cooking oil. If you do this in the line immediately after the fuel tank before the main filter. This will save you changing the main filter as often. Put it in an easy to access position. You can see it's contents and condition easily.

Thanks for that - I was aware of most of that, but not the need for regular oil changes. As it is our old Delica doesn't get a lot of regular use these days - it's more a pet than a means of transport! It dates back to me & my partner's time in a regularly gigging band, when we needed practical transport for 4 musos & a ridiculous mount of gear. When it does get used it tends to be regular mineral diesel, as veg oil's nothing like as cheap as it once was. We're interested in trying it with HVO (hydrogen-treated vegetable oil) - we work for a charity which operates two canal boats, which run on HVO if it's available - it appears to be completely interchangeable with mineral diesel.

Well Swasticar sales outside the US have plummetted in 2025, all due to the Muskrat being a fascist associated with the Trump regime.
Presumably the MAGA gas guzzling, gun toting tw@ts have a real issue now seeing as Swasticars are EVs which they hate on princple, whilst the brand has become synonomous with their cult leader......
Whilst all those US 'lefties' will just buy a better brand of EV.

Just became No1 in the largest market

Yes i was wrong in the name, i meant the EV1 ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors_EV1 )

Ahh yes, I remember seeing this in a magazine. Looks like Pontiac tried to make an Jaguar XJS, by blending the front styling of a firebird with a retro rear triangular, sloping shape of an XJS.

That was the trouble with the 90's, everything considered futuristic, needed to be completely overdone, wildly different but still somehow retaining its unmistakable, bubble body, rounded 90's origins...

There are versions of HVO that can run in modern cars, makes then a bit less polluting (up to 70% say the promotors so probably 50 at best) but for some reason we don't see them at the forecourts..

Yeah it look weird but it was received quite positive and obviously they also had a lot of downsides it was basicly a Beta product left for public testing ans alltough it is normal with current EV's back then equipment was tested first. but there was at least enough demand to make a follow up model instead GM chose to pull them all off the road and into the schredder. And it took Tesla / Musk some efforts to get his EV car on the road. (with tradition car makers trying to block him)

I know the answer to this part.

"Five EV1s were reported to be donated to China in 1998, specifically to the National Electric Vehicle Experimental & Demonstration Area (NEVEDA), a government research institute in Shantou. By 2018, only two EV1s were seen at the facility, while the whereabouts of the three other EV1s were unknown."

They went to an R&D facility otherwise known as "Copy and sell for less".

So a few hundred dollars of damage to a car, plus a few hundred more for the inconvenience of getting it fixed results in a $1 million law suit?
Anyone sane looking at that would tell the claimant to stop wasting everyone's time and great a grip on reality.

I say good for him, put this individual through hell, make it massively public.

He will help all the others Tesla owners at the same time with his litigation

Actually, it only stirs the rabble. Normal people instead look at the ridiculous claims of the law suits for what is a minor repair and an hour with a body shop...

Obviously you never had a body repair.

A scratch usually involves painting a whole panel, or incase of metallics, pearl paints involves a whole side of a vehicle to blend in the colour.

You could go for a marker pen repair, see how that looks 😁
