Must admit that I've been sorely tempted to add a suitable graphic to the warning sign in Topsham which warns that there's a humped zebra crossing, though I've never even seen a normal one crossing there.

I always confuse them with striped camels.

Went for a ride earlier and saw the couple of St. George Cross flags attached to the railings on one of the roads going over the M25. Seems to be quite widespread. Or popular?

I hadn’t realised it was so widespread. There are numerous flag adorned bridges around here too, and, far more houses with flags (and I don’t mean just those in the stereotypical “council house estates”). I had assumed it was “local” and, as I said, connected to the Women’s Rugby World Cup, but, I think I was mistaken.

It's a World Cup thing.

Daubing red paint on publicly maintained infrastructure is classed as terrorism by the government.
Difficulty, who would they proscribe. Maybe the name "roundabout" so anybody using the word would be arrested under terrorism charges. All those road signs suddenly terrorist propoganda (like the word "Action" or certain country names).

Thinking further, is Starmer going to be arrested should he happen to mention the country (he's intending to recognise) and that he's taking "action" in the same speech?

It's the problem when your country's flag gets hijacked by racists, it becomes difficult to fly it for legitimate reasons.
I'm not a great fan of flags. Fine if used as a type of logo or identification eg flown as an ensign of courtesy flag on a boat but too often a reinforcer of nationalism and it's nationalism I see little societal benefit from. World is full of people all of whom what pretty much the same so splitting into tribes soon leads to what we are seeing around our hotels ...

Aye, it is a shame when idiots like Wee Stevie use it to monetise their warped agenda.

Nigel of Farage hates Europe and immigration so much that he's married two Europeans.

Hypocritical weirdos the pair of them. Running away when they get scared rather than standing up like any true proud nationalist.

Yes, that was my initial thought, but, it would appear to be more widespread, and, as I said, spilling over into daubing on mini-roundabouts.

I have lived here for 77 years, excluding a bit of "working away from home" time, to the best of my knowledge, the mass hysteria was usually over football, Rugby never got a look in.

At least the Mirror feels able to call out Farage, rather than presenting his policies as a reasonable response that shouldn't be called out as racist populism.

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/mikey-smith-7-dictator-esque-35795187

Nigel Farage said he was willing to accept people being tortured and put to death because of his policies, if it meant he could deport more migrants.

Launching his hard-right mass deportation plan, the Reform leader said he would scrap Britain’s human rights protections, lock up women and children, put peace in Northern Ireland under threat and risk going to war with the church.

He promised uniformed officers raiding Britain’s towns and cities, disappearing people off the street for rendition to countries they’ve never been to, with no recourse to legal protections, claiming that it’s what “normal countries do.”

Farage also said he wanted to fund the Taliban in return for them taking more people from the UK to torture and murder in Afghanistan.

(Personal view) Government and politicians have and continue to make things worse and harder for themselves by continuing to refer to it as "illegal immigration". It isn't. It’s "irregular immigration" as there are no safe routes.

Continually calling it "illegal" empowers the racists who adopt the (incorrect) attitude that it's "illegal" and thus those refugees arriving seeking asylum ate breaking the law. This fallacy is just driving the racists to spend longer outside hotels and ensuring Farage has a high profile platform.

Open a UK asylum application office on the French coast and nobody would spend a fortune yo risk their and their children's lives for the same outcome.

Starmer is just pandering to Blue Labour (McSweeney and Glasman), who'd be happier in Reform. They make Blair look like a Trot.

Starmer should be leading with some sort of 'vision' and trying to make the case for harnessing the skills of migrants, but he's just looking like a rabbit caught in the Reform headlights.

Or is it Stramer's view as well? Does Starmer have such little backbone that he can't even say his real views? Does Starmer have so few morals that he'll empower racism rather than be honest about things? What does either say about Starmer as a person?

Like some say Netanyahu is pandering to his right wing, but increasingly people are now saying he's just hiding behind them and he holds those same views.
