Does that suggest we need to spend savings? Does my buying a new gravel bike mean I'm doing my bit??

Maybe people have finally realised that having "rainy day" money is sensible?
I'd like to see how the figures went pre lockdowns. 2020 to 2022 was a weird time, an anomaly.

I suppose it might also be a reaction to a sense that certain businesses are profiteering, so people save rather than spend on stuff like eating out

I think people who visit Cornwall and hear the very very old joke about crossing the Tamar to England for the first time are prone to imagining they have hit upon something new.

It always seems to me that Cornish nationalism started as a bit of a joke about whether the cream or jam went first on a scone, but then got out of hand, and no amount of calling out "It was just a joke, Denzel!" will stop it.

Dunno. Given some of my postcode is in Devon (albeit without any houses in it as far as I can tell) I don't think we really know what Cornwall is really like if you are living somewhere like No Man's Land (an actual place in Cornwall) in February, and whether this generates any separatist sentiment.

Try Bugle. Jeez.

(FWIW, there's a Nomansland near Tiverton too, but they obviously had a malfunctioning space bar.)

Did anyone watch this? Interestingly, the comments under the FB post are overwhelmingly suggesting the conviction is unsafe, whereas a while ago when PE did a similar post, it was much more "she's guilty!".

Beware mixing up what is a self filtering comments section with a change in sentiment. Anyone reading an article like that as this point already has the view that there was something wrong with the case, more or less.
