Clearly not. They may have very similar clothes - a lot of teens like Hollister for example. Given that they have used forensics now to confirm identity, it seems likely that the deceased teens were very badly damaged in the crash - it's not always easy to work out who is who.,

Apparently not. Again, if the lad is unconscious, possibly with facial injuries, plus intubation etc, it may not have been immediately apparent if the boys looked similar.

In which case why "identify" one of them at all?
Who identified the body?

News article from the BBC gives a good update:

The two boys look startlingly similar.

Sorry but I'm still not buying it. If they look so similar then why was a family member not involved in the ID?
Was it just a toss of the coin?

The family members didn't spot that it was the wrong buy when they were visiting. He has been in a coma for 3 weeks and therefore intubated. It's amazing how much unlike themselves a person can look when they are seriously ill.

I guess identifying a dead person is equally problematic.
There must be more to it than the same build and clothing.

"Knowles said several personal items were found at the scene of the crash, but none were physically on a person.
These included a phone in a case and a driving licence in the name of Joshua Johnson, as well as a second phone displaying medical identification in the name of Trevor Wynn, with a bank card attached to the device.
Knowles said one of the attending officers used this to establish the next of kin and called Trevor's mother to explain what had happened.
She provided her son's college identification card plus a description of his appearance, build and footwear.
The ID card was then taken to the mortuary by the officer, Knowles said, where details of build and clothing were compared.
"The officer was satisfied that this was the body of Trevor Wynn," he added.

I think that there is if there needs to be - e.g. dental records etc.

In this case they looked at the appearance, build, clothing etc and compared with the ID card. Presumably similar was done for the other lad. The problem is that they looked very similar and were probably wearing the same popular brands (I know that teen girls often tend to wear the same brands as their friends).

1. Which is what they did, but far too late.
2. Obviously inadequate. Fail.

Weather looking a bit grim for those of you in the South West, the warning is up to red and I just saw a Met Office livestream saying the wind speeds could exceed anything previously recorded in a January. I'm right on the edge of the yellow snow warning instead so no doubt all the schools around here have decided nort to open tomorrow whilst in reality it is just lashing down with rain.

60-70 mph here on the border with Devon. Not that bad, but there will be a bit of damage and floods. I wouldn't want to be much further west though.

The worst of it is due for you in a couple of hours though.

I thought I was joking about the schools here, it turns out it was actually worse than that and they shut some early today even though there is no snow yet and winds here aren't strong at all.

The orchestra in Exeter I normally play with that rehearses on Thursdays is currently sending out what seem to be hourly emails about whether the rehearsal will be on, given that lots of people travel some distance to get there. And all the local trains in Brittany have been cancelled until sometime tomorrow morning.

We are in land here so it's maxing hot at 60 mph at about 8pm. Its not exactly fun, but we are not going to get any damage other than the odd tree.

Up on Dartmoor is 65ish around the same time, which is just a light breeze for them.

I'm just wondering whether I'll get to the meeting in Paris.
