I don't think it's necessarily saying nothing though. Hidden in his bland statements will be stuff that's been agreed between the European leaders... even something as seemingly vapid as "alliances matter because they are built on respect and partnership, not pressure" is a rebuke, and an invitation to anyone left in the US administration who isn't nodding along to Trump's lunacy with enthusiasm to reconsider. It's vanishingly unlikely, I'll admit, but I imagine that there are diplomatic threats being transmitted behind the scenes, as well as offering off-ramps for de-escalating.

Unfortunately, Trump is still the most powerful and dangerous person in the world, despite being a complete raving lunatic.

I think you’re right on this. The speech was carefully worded and the message would have been agreed with the other European leaders.

The subtlety and nuance will be totally lost on Camp Trump tho’.

So sorry chaps no ‘fighting them on the beaches’ this time.

Foot note: ‘tariffs completely wrong’ sounds like talking to a child and should be followed up with ‘bad president’.

I'd agree with this but (in my head at least) he had already said it all over the weekend anyway.

Fair but……he also gets slammed for being slow to react and not saying anything for a couple of days. So maybe he shouldn’t have bothered with a speech.

He could have just done a standard press release reiterating his position and waited to see Donnie's response later tonight.
Then add something more substantial if required.

I suspect they know it plays to different audiences. Plus, of course, not everyone is paying as much attention as NCAP, so worth reiterating, given the import.

What's the strategy behind releasing all of the text with the Norwegian PM, where he throws his toys out of the pram about the peace price it wasn't the PMs to give?

Reports I heard was it was the Norwegians who released the letter.
If it was the Norwegians releasing/leaking the letter I can see why in that it shows how unhinged Trúmp has become, how his agenda stems from what he took as an affront when he didn't get the Peace Prize and how little he actually understands about what is happening.

Well, there's a thing I didn't know was a thing.

https://www.transportenvironment.or...s-aviations-fastest-climate-win-new-t-e-study

Contrails, the white lines left by planes in the sky, can spread and persist in certain atmospheric conditions. This traps heat and warms the planet at least as much as aviation's CO₂ emissions, contributing between 1% and 2% to global warming. Yet only 3% of flights caused 80% of this warming in 2019. Reducing contrails and the warming they cause could be easily achieved by adjusting the flight paths of just a few flights at specific times of the day and year.

Horror high speed train crash in Spain:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c07xvp0mengt

Still no real idea about the underlying reason for why the three back carriages of one train came off the rails which then crossed the tracks of the train coming the other way. Two other trains had gone over that section just 20 minutes earlier, and there was no report of a problem from them.

In photos, apparently one track had been dislodged, but at this stage they don't know if it was the cause, or a result of the derailment.

Apparently unions had been making noises about maintenance/safety issues, but whether that had any bearing on this, obviously no-one knows at this time.
